July 10, 2020
9:00 – 4:30 (Doors open at 8:30 for those attending in person)
6 Continuing Education Clock Hours
Conference will be offered in person and via live webinar*
What is sex therapy? Can any therapist “do” sex therapy? Is sex therapy the same as sexual wellness? How does a clinician assess sexual wellness in a client’s life or relationships? Can you provide individual and couples therapy at the same time? What happens when a clinician is uncomfortable with sexual health or certain sexual topics?
This workshop will explore these questions and more. The purpose of this workshop is to help clinicians better understand how they can incorporate sex therapy into their practice. Participants will begin with a guided discussion to better understand the concept of sexual health and sex therapy and how they can create discussion around sexual health with clients. Participants will also learn ways to assess areas of strengths and needs as well as normalize sexual practices for the self and the relationship. Participants will then engage in an experiential exercise to explore their own person of the therapist around sexual health and sexuality in order to better assist clients. Finally, participants will learn about various sexual dysfunctions including assessing and treatment protocols for each sexual dysfunction. This portion will also include how to refer to another sexual health provider and how to create a comprehensive and systemic treatment plan for the client.
- Participants will explore the terms sex therapy, sexual wellness, and sexual health while creating working definitions of each to use in practice.
- Participants will explore their own person of the therapist issues around sexual wellness and health and how these could impact clinical work
- Participants will be able to define sexual dysfunctions, learn ways to assess sexual dysfunctions and explore different treatment options for sexual dysfunctions.
- Participants will learn how sex therapy is a systemic issue and explore best practices for providing comprehensive treatment.
